Apostille for Mongolian documents
An apostille is the certificate that makes a Mongolian public document valid in every other country that applies the Hague Apostille Convention. We prepare the document, obtain the apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and translate it if needed.
Where an apostille is accepted
Mongolia's accession to the Apostille Convention entered into force on 31 December 2009. Since then, documents for countries such as China, Russia, South Korea, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic and Türkiye only need an apostille.
Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany and Greece objected to Mongolia's accession, so documents for those countries still need embassy legalisation.
Which documents can be apostilled
Apostilles are placed on public documents: civil status certificates, court decisions, documents from state registries, education documents and notarial acts. Private documents — a contract, a reference letter or a translation — can be apostilled once a Mongolian notary has certified the signature or the copy.
Some documents must first be verified by the issuing authority. We check this at the start so the apostille is not refused.

Frequently asked questions
How long does an apostille take in Mongolia?
Timing depends on the document and on whether notarisation or verification is needed first. We give you a firm estimate in the quote and offer urgent handling when available.
Does an apostille expire?
The apostille itself does not expire, but many authorities only accept documents — especially police certificates and civil status extracts — issued within the last three to six months.
Can you apostille a translation?
Yes. The translator's signature is notarised and the apostille is placed on the notarial certificate, which is often what authorities abroad expect.
